About the artist

Born in Niagara Falls, New York, Amy Caterina received her BFA in photography from Buffalo State College and her MFA in photography from California State University, Fullerton.

Through the integration of video, craftwork, and photography, Caterina explores issues such as topography, reclamation, personal interactions, and domestic happenings.  The environments she creates are about polarity:  the direct and indirect, the real and artificial, and the cause and effect of human and environmental interaction.

About the work

Caterina designed and created an 8-foot cupcake that functioned as a “bunker” in the Coastline Art Gallery exhibition CAKE/fondant in September 2012.  The bunker was filled with rations, all knitted in pink cozies.  Amy is donating a selection of items from the bunker, preparation for the apocalypse.
