Colorado-born Matt Wedel is known principally for his imaginative, intricate, and colorful ceramics. He is inspired by flora and fauna, myth and history. A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and California State University, Long Beach, he has exhibited nationally and internationally since his early 20s. His paintings and drawings such as Fruit Tree are a reprieve from the planning-intensive and technically challenging practice of ceramic, allowing him to explore the properties and behavior of colors with greater spontaneity and freedom. Wedel is represented by L.A. Louver Gallery in Venice, CA.
