Orr Herz’s recent ceramic sculptures take up the appearance of a variety of mundane objects, from hammers to dumbbells and ping-pong paddles. They are playful and surreal, with an element of homage to the “soft” sculptures of the great Pop artist Claes Oldenburg. Born in Israel in 1980, Herz received his MFA from the University of Southern California and lives and works in Los Angeles. He is represented by CES Gallery, and his work was recently reviewed in Artforum and Contemporary Art Review Los Angeles.
