Robert Larson graduated from the California College of Arts in Oakland, California, in 1989. He bases his art on found objects, which he collects and sorts into stockpiles before configuring them into richly textured collages. Working in the tradition of artists such as Ed Kienholz, Kurt Schwitters, and Robert Rauschenberg, he embraces items that have been damaged and abandoned and incorporates their histories into his work.

“It is after these items have been discarded that an exciting transformation begins. Their once identical and uniform surfaces begin to fade and abrade with exposure to the elements—turning them from homogeneity into infinite variety.”
—Robert Larson
