Suzan Woodruff was raised in the Sonoran desert by her gold-prospector grandparents and drawn to the aesthetic potential of natural phenomena at an early age. Painting with the aid of her moving “Gravity Easel,” she creates imagery that is simultaneously cosmic and aqueous. Her process is chaotic and often improvised, and she works “in a kind of trance like a deep meditation.” Someone once said to her “I can’t decide if your painting looks like the beginning or the end of the world.” Her reply was “Why not both?”
