William Wray studied painting at the Art Students League in New York and has lived for most of his life in California. Making his living as a cartoonist who specialized in painted subjects, he spent years mastering an eclectic array of artistic styles. In the end he found his own voice with a contemporized version of traditional California regional painting that focuses on humble subjects rarely considered the stuff of fine art. Wray blends traditional realism with the energy of abstract expressionism in an ongoing search to balance these seemingly unrelated styles.
