Bradley Hankey, who has contributed Art Auction 2017’s signature image, is a Los Angeles-based painter fascinated by the play of manmade and natural in the urban California scene: “Soft skies are contrasted with geometric flat planes of color. Telephone poles compete with palm trees in the skylines. The organic shapes of the hills and mountains provide a backdrop for our inorganic, geometric architecture. Silhouettes of trees and vegetation vie for attention with construction cranes, lifeguard stations, and the urban environment.” Hankey received his BFA in Painting from the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, in 2007, and has lived in Los Angeles since 2009. He is represented by Skidmore Contemporary Art in Santa Monica.
