Artist Profile

Charles Arnoldi

b. 1946

Charles Arnoldi, also known as Chuck Arnoldi and Charles Arthur Arnoldi, was born on April 10, 1946 in Dayton Ohio. Arnoldi began his pursuit in the art world in his early college years after attending a Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning exhibition. He was convinced that he, too, could become a successful artist.
.
Arnoldi began his artistic studies at a community college in Ventura, California where he was urged to apply to the Art Center in Los Angeles. Soon after his acceptance there he decided to move on to the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles and found himself in the same restrictive environment as before. He then rejected academic training and pursued an art career through self teaching. During this time, he began to explore various mediums and found and interest in creating sculpture from tree branches combined with painting. By 1971, Arnoldi’s tree branch sculptures gained much notoriety and he was invited to present his first solo exhibition at the Riko Mizuno Gallery in Los Angeles. Throughout his oeuvre, Arnoldi maintained a close connection to wood as medium.
.
Arnoldi now lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
