“Chuck Arnoldi gives us a beautifully orchestrated composition of lines and colors, and at the same time has fun with our tendency to read images in terms of 3D objects and spaces. Now you see them, now you don’t! In terms of art history, this kind of playfulness goes back to the Cubists.”
— Dr. Malcolm Warner, Executive Director

Since the beginning of his career in the early 1970s, Charles “Chuck” Arnoldi has made art that resists easy classification in terms of the movements of the day. His work has developed from graceful tree-branch sculptures to wall reliefs whose surfaces are a multiplicity of sticks, to abstract paintings such as the present work. It is from a recent group of compositions, reminiscent of stained-glass windows, in which he has created fascinating, changeable effects of space through line and color. Arnoldi is based in Venice, California, and represented in museum collections throughout the country. In 2016 he was the subject of a documentary film, Charles Arnoldi: True Believer, directed by Dale Schierholt as part of the Laguna Art Museum-produced California Masters series.
