I used to hang around with many of these artists while I was a student at UCI and a member of the Artists Guild in LA.
I took over Frank Stella's studio in Costa Mesa Ca following his departure and worked closely with Tony DeLap (his studio was next to mine), Craig Kauffman, Larry Bell, John McLaughlin, Ed Moses, John Baldessari, Edward Avedesien, Frank Roth, Ed Ruscha, and many more.
I was also TA for John Paul Jones, finally many are recognizing his arts breadth and scope!
In the early to mid 70's one of my paintings was selected as best in show. It is my understanding that it was placed in your permanent collection. Is there any way to determine its current disposition?

These paintings show are so fantastic-so beautiful!! Why are they not sent on a exhibition tour in the Eastern United States, so we can enjoy them. Not everyone can get to California.

I have a wonderful large piece by Jay McAfferty featuring his burned holes technique. Our best friend who is with the NCIS Production was scouting and ended up on a rooftop where Jay was working. It was not until later that he realized the technique was the same as the one that we have at our home. My parents supported the emerging artists of this period and my mother Doris Dubin was on the Museum Council ant LACMA. Both of my parents died within 5 dys and I began a journey 2 summers ago, before I knew of PST, to attempt to meet the artist to thank them for the work that inspired my mother. It has been an amazing journey of the heart. I have met Laddie John Dill, Peter Alexander, Judy Stabile and of course Eric Orr and Hans Burkhardt are deceased. It has lead me to a daily exploration of galleries, museums, lectures and the "Dig This" at the Hammer inspired me to visit the Noah Portifoy 10 acre assemblage compound in the High Desert. Having been in high school in Los Angeles and UCLA during the 60's, and very involved in the Woman's Movement, co founding the first L.A. Shelter for Battered Woman,I am extremely interested in this period of not only the emergence and birth of West Coast art, but of the underlying political and social justice issues associated with it. Suzanne Lacy's Woman's Building performance art, which I never expected to see for PST, really solidified the importance of performance art and the scope of its power to record in history the energy, words and sight of the time of the piece.
If you have any additional information on Jay to pass on to me I would sincerely appreciate it. His piece has always touched me as was a favorite of my mothers.
I look forward to visiting your exhibit, a I have already seen most of them.
Thank you so very much,
Randi

I volunteer at the Hammer Museum and have volunteered at the Getty and various other events for PST.

Congratulations on appointing Malcolm as your new Executive Director. He has a wonderful family and is very well liked in Fort Worth. Outside of the exceptional things he has accomplished at the Kimbell Art Museum, Malcolm has been an outspoken champion for the arts here in Texas. We will miss him, his wife Sara and their two great kids.

Another of Isamu Noguichi's creations is the Noguchi Plaza located in Little Tokyo in the heart of Los Angeles. This multipurpose area he created is located in the plaza of the Japanese American Community and Cutural Center at 244 S. San Pedro, LA 90012. The plaza can be used for anything from a dinner, a concert, a dance or a place to show outdoor movies. It is available to rent and is ideal if you are seeking a place that holds from 500 to 800 people depending on the event.
