The Conversation With… series brings artists and other creative minds to Laguna Art Museum to discuss their practice in a casual conversation with guests. This month’s participant is curator and writer Tyler Stallings, discussing his newly released book Aridtopia: Essays on Art and Culture from Deserts in the Southwest United Sates.

Stallings is a critically acclaimed author and contemporary art curator. He is the Artistic Director at Culver Center of the Arts and Director of the Sweeney Art Gallery at UCR ARTSblock at the University of California, Riverside. He writes about artists and other individuals who are highly engaged with their political, social, and ecological environment. Stallings has edited and contributed to numerous books on art and culture that focus on identity, technology, photography, popular culture, and desert studies, and has been a columnist for print and online journals. Aridtopia, his first book of essays, has just been published by Blue West Books. Stallings was chief curator at Laguna Art Museum from 1999 to 2006.

The museum is open for free from 5:00-9:00 p.m. the first Thursday of each month. Guests are encouraged to view the museum’s current exhibitions as well as participate in the Laguna Beach First Thursday Art Walk which takes place at area galleries from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
