Artist Profile

David Botello

b. 1946

David Botello is a native resident of Los Angeles, California, where he has lived and worked his entire life. Murals have always been the focus of his work. In 1973, he collaborated in the Estrada Court Murals, a massive public art project in Boyle Heights which include over 90 different murals. The walls are adorned with vibrant murals reminiscent of the Chicano art movement. Botello himself helped found the Goez Art Studio in 1986, a gallery which focused primarily on Chicano art. And later, along with Wayne Healy, he co-founded the East Los Streetscapers, a muralist art group which collectively implemented murals and other public art projects throughout the Los Angeles area. Inspired by pre-Columbian art, as well as French Impressionism, Botello’s work is always passionate and bold.
