DOTY/GLASCO is the collaborative duo of artists J. R. Doty and Joe Glasco. Together they create work that explores the passage of time, revisiting nature and the Sublime in a contemporary framework. Working with photography, collage, and sculpture, Doty/Glasco mine the intersection of their personal history with the politics of landscape, exploring the aesthetic relationship between locations, composition, textures, and contexts. They have been working as a team since meeting in graduate school in 2010 at the San Francisco Art Institute. Their work has been shown at galleries in London, New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, San Francisco, and Chicago.

In their art, Doty/Glasco draw upon an archive of 40,000 photographic images and artifacts collected while traveling around the country for a year in 2014. The images are from locations chosen for their unique geological conditions. They represent the essence of nature, with an emphasis on the phenomena of time as they affect topography. Photography is combined with materials that mirror the landscape’s movement through cycles of erosion and transformation.
