In conjunctions with this year’s theme of art education, Laguna Art Museum hosted an evening of lectures and demonstrations, complete with complimentary refreshments. Following the presentation, both speakers signed books in the museum lobby.

Pierre Yann Guidetti

“Sennelier: A History in Color”
Lecture and presentation by Pierre Yann Guidetti, CEO of Savoir Faire

In addition to being CEO of Savoir Faire, Pierre Yann Guidetti is an art supply distributor and the official voice of Sennelier paints. His presentation encompassed the story of the new book, Sennelier: A History in Color, which chronicles the Sennelier family who, for more than 100 years, invested themselves in the world of colors. The lecture encompassed how color ranges were developed, and how varnishes, canvases, panels, easels, and new tools were created to respond to artists looking for new ideas.

Vanessa Rothe

“Welcome to Art School”
Educational lecture by Vanessa Rothe and artist demonstration by Debra Huse

Vanessa Rothe presented the instructional lecture “Welcome to Art School.” Rothe is a fine artist, art instructor, author of The Art School Approach to Oils, and California editor of Fine Art Connoisseur magazine. Rothe discussed the fundamental art concepts taught in fine art schools and used by the plein air painters everyday. She taught what value is and how it helps to suggest volume; discover color mixing including hue, intensity, tinting, and shading; and how to create depth in a work using linear and atmospheric perspective. Participating Plein Air Invitational artist Debra Huse was on hand to demonstrate these various techniques using Sennelier oil paints.

Book-Signing
Following the presentations, the speakers were available for a book-signing in the museum lobby. Mr. Guidetti signed his book Sennelier: A History in Color, and Ms. Rothe signed her book The Art School Approach to Oils.

Parking for the museum is available at meters on Cliff Drive and North Coast Highway. Street parking is available in the neighborhood east of the museum across North Coast Highway.
