A painter and illustrator, Jeff Peters has shown his work nationally for over a decade. Born in 1975, he currently works out of studios in Costa Mesa and Laguna Beach.

Peters received his BFA from Laguna College of Art & Design. His work is in the permanent collection of Laguna Art Museum and has been featured at the Irvine Fine Arts Center and California State University’s Dominguez Hills Art Gallery, among other venues. In his most recent series, he combines nineteenth-century German romanticism with collage art, super-flat pop art, and color field painting. A recurring theme in his work is the idea of pre-conceived notions of beauty.

In First Light Peters achieves an ethereal, almost otherworldly quality, largely by not dwelling on details and painting in a somewhat blurry technique. Typically for him, we sense that there is more to the image than meets the eye, some level of commentary or irony beneath the surface prettiness.
