About the artist
Though presently living outside of Munich, Germany, Harrington remains a Californian artist whose West Coast heritage is much in evidence. In paintings indebted to traditional fresco technique, he imbeds multi-tonal veins of color into monochromatic fields through repeated accretions and reductions of paint.

When he was featured in the solo exhibition The Shadow- Line at the San Jose Museum of Art in 2008, the art historian and critic Peter Selz wrote of him: “At a time when abstract painting, indeed painting in general, seems on the wane, Harrington produces paintings that validate the perpetual human act of visual denotation… recalling John Cage‘s musical compositions, no beginning and no end, appearing like fragments of infinitude.”

About the work
Since 2007 Harrington has made an extended series of color etchings that transpose into another medium the horizontal abstract forms, here sunset-like, that characterize his paintings.
