About the Artist
Nobuhito Nishigawara was born in Nagoya, Japan and currently lives in Orange County. Working in ceramics, he explores his dual national and cultural identity, influenced by old Japanese traditions and sensibilities while embracing contemporary experiences from the West. This remains the undertone to all his work.

About the work
“My work explores the perception and interpretation of cultural icons through strong references to art history. Having spent the first half of my life—during my formative years—in Japan, and the other half in North America, I am very interested in the relationship of perception, ritual, and interpretation to cultural identity.” —Nobuhito Nishigawara
