Elizabeth Turk is a California artist and is represented by Hirschl & Adler Modern. In 2010 she was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship and the Anna & Barnett Newman Foundation award. Born in Pasadena and raised in Orange County, Turk received her MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and her BA from Scripps College. She has had a distinguished career internationally and bi-coastally, and her work resides in collections including the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Weatherspoon Gallery at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the Mint Museum, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. In 2014-15, Laguna Art Museum presented Elizabeth Turk: Sentient Forms, which included works from the Seashell X-ray Mandala series.

On November 3, 2018, Elizabeth Turk’s Shoreline Project brought together 1,000 volunteer performers for a site-specific performance in Laguna Beach. The project was the commissioned work of art for Laguna Art Museum’s sixth annual Art & Nature, and took place at sunset on Main Beach. With LED-illuminated umbrellas designed as an evolution of the artist’s Seashell X-ray Mandala series, the 1,000 performers converged on the shoreline in both spontaneous and choreographed movement. Shoreline Project created a shared common experience amongst the performers and an engaging spectacle for thousands of viewers from the surrounding cliffs and buildings.
