101 Years of Art, Education, and Community
The museum’s centennial year is past, but we’re not resting on our laurels. Since the beginning of 2019 we’ve opened our renovated and expanded lower-level galleries and reinstalled the whole museum, presenting three new exhibitions and selected works from our permanent collection. Later this year we’ll embark on the next phase of our building improvement campaign, a facelift for the exterior.
The aim in all our efforts is to create the best possible experience for the visitor, whether they’re here for aesthetic pleasure, education, or simply to recharge in beautiful surroundings, whether they come once in a rare while or regularly.
We continue to receive generous gifts of art for our permanent collection, filling gaps and enabling us more fully to represent the wonderful art history of California. Our Thursday evening programs, which include music concerts, film screenings, artists’ talks, and art-historical lectures, continues to grow in popularity. Every year we welcome over 2,000 children on school tours, and our twenty-five dedicated docents assure that everyone, no matter what their age or background, gets the most out of their visit.
