More Information

Gerard Basil Stripling’s move to Laguna Beach in March of 2000 coincided with his embrace of fine art and his own identity as artist. The works in this exhibition, Work and Soul: Two Decades of Practice, span that evolution, covering the past 22 years and demonstrating Laguna’s influence on the artist’s development. The presented works include a variety of mediums—from his early works in steel, stone, and ceramic to his more recent experimentations in bronze—bringing to light Stripling’s versatility in fabrication techniques. While Stripling’s work has been very visible within Laguna Beach, the majority of the work on view in the exhibition has never before been seen and in some cases is newly created. The exhibition is personal as it reflects work created from the soul, by and for the artist.

At Bonhams, we will join California Art Specialists Scot Levitt, Aaron Bastian and Katie Halligan for a private, in-depth look at Bonhams’ April 12th California Art auction. The sale will feature works by important California Plein Air artists such as Granville Redmond, William Wendt, Maurice Braun, and Marion Kavanagh Wachtel, as well as 19th century paintings by Norton Bush, Thomas Hill, Raymond Dabb Yelland and others. We will start our tour with coffee on Bonhams’ picturesque rooftop with 360-degree views of Hollywood and continue with a specialists-lead private tour of sale highlights in Bonhams’ galleries. Q&A and time for additional previewing will follow the tour.
