Arnold Mesches
1923 – 2016
Arnold Mesches, born in 1923, spent most of his childhood in Buffalo, New York. At the age of twenty he moved to Los Angeles to study art at the Art Center School on scholarship. Most of Mesches’ work was known for having a controversial nature, specifically those works in response to the McCarthy era. In 1945 the FBI targeted Mesches as a subversive communist due to his provocative nature. Mesches work expressed many contemporary social and historical issues. Over the years, he has had over 125 solo exhibitions around the world.
