David Park
1911-1960
Born in Boston, David Park moved to California in the late 1920s. After attending Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles for about a year, he obtained work as a stone cutter for the Federal Arts Project. Living in the San Francisco Bay Area, he also painted public murals for the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Today Park is best known as the founder of the Bay Area Figurative School of the 1950s and 60s, the members of which painted in a style that was much looser though still representational.
