Artist Profile

Deborah Brown

Deborah Brown was born in Clearwater, Florida, but currently lives and works outside Bath, UK. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Studio Art from UC San Diego, and her Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts from UC Irvine. Through different mediums including sculpture, photography, and drawings, her work is often concerned with sexuality and the body. She is fascinated with juxtaposing naturally incompatible objects to expose an underlying sexual tension. Her sculptures in the Laguna Art Museum’s permanent collection represent a harsh condemnation of conformity through fashion, and the inherent ugliness concealed within our obsession with decorum and fantasy.
