Artist Profile

Jeffrey Vallance

b. 1955

Jeffrey Karl Reese Vallance, born on January 25, 1955 is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Vallance grew up in Southern California’s San Fernando Valley post the McCarthy Era during the one of the most tumultuous times of America’s history. Vallance’s early work revolved around the regional iconography and pop culture that he grew up with.

In 1977, Vallance first displayed his innovative and unique multidisciplinary direction in art. He is now considered one of the leading figures of Infiltration Art, a sub genre of Intervention Art, that blurs the lines between object-making, installation, performance, curation and anthropological study. He is most well known for his art that interacts with real-world institutions, communities, politicians, religions, museums and pop-culture figures, disturbing these prescribed structures in an effort for change without causing an uproar.

Vallance has complimented his artistic career with a long history of teaching at various universities. He currently teaches “The Art of Infiltration” at California Institute of the Arts or CalArts in Valencia, California.
