Peter Krasnow
The Ukrainian-born artist Peter Krasnow moved to Los Angeles from New York in 1922. After a period of focusing on wood sculpture, he returned to painting in 1944 and developed a light, colorful, even decorative mode of abstraction – partly as an antidote to the darkness and chaos of World War II and its aftermath. He drew upon the simple forms of folk art and carved his own frames in a deliberately “primitive” style.
