Clark Gable signed with MGM in early December 1930. Hurrell shot a series of photographs of the aspiring star when he was still being groomed by the studio. Hurrell recalled Gable as “the most charming man I have ever known. He had good features and you could photograph him from any angle. No matter what you tried to capture on him, his face would register it.”
