Hurrell recalled Dietrich as a total perfectionist. She posed exactly as she wanted and told him when to shoot. It was impossible for him to get a candid shot. He said: “Dietrich had to have a mirror whenever we photographed her—not a hand mirror, mind you, but a full-length one to see her body; she had a mirror on every movie set.”
