In 1991 Hurrell told Jean Harlow biographer David Stenn that this portfolio portrait of Rita Hayworth was a last-ditch attempt to wring emotion from her. “She was gorgeous, but there was nothing else there. I had nothing to photograph, so I just told her to lie down. She fell into a pose like that, and so I shot her in profile.”
