Ruth Peabody studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and privately with her mother, artist Elanor Colburn. The two women moved to Laguna Beach around 1923 and both became active in the Laguna Beach Art Association. Peabody worked as both a painter and a sculptor, teaching art classes at Laguna Beach High School and privately in her studio.
