Join the Laguna Art Museum for a special opportunity to hear Shepard Fairey talk about his artistic practice—in conversation with curator and writer, Pedro Alonzo. Together they will discuss the evolution of Fairey’s practice over the past 30 years, including his multiple roles as artist, influencer, and disruptor.

Over the past 30 years, Fairey has established himself as a leading figure in Southern California—and globally—in art, fashion, the urban landscape, and politics. This conversation will address Fairey’s iconic and impactful visual vocabulary, as seen in the exhibition Facing the Giant—Three Decades of Dissent: Shepard Fairey, currently on view at Laguna Art Museum, as well as his impact in public art the world over.

Shepard Fairey has been creating work in the public realm and in museums for more than three decades. His work includes posters, murals, clothing, stickers, and other forms of visual culture. Pedro Alonzo is a Boston-based curator and writer, and adjunct curator at Dallas Contemporary. Since 2006 he has specialized in producing exhibitions that transcend the boundaries of museum walls and spill out into the urban landscape, addressing audiences beyond the traditional museum public. Fairey and Alonzo have been long-time collaborators; Alonzo has curated two exhibitions of his work—shepard fairey: backward forward, on view at Dallas Contemporary, on view through July 2023, and the 20-year survey, Supply and Demand at ICA Boston, in 2013.
