What's It All About?

Explore the multiverse — and celebrate Women’s History Month — with artist Jean Lowe and Laguna Art Museum’s newly inaugurated Curatorial Fellow Rochelle Steiner. Lowe and Steiner will introduce & discuss the exhibition Your Place in the Multiverse, a 20-year survey of Lowe’s work, including new pieces presented for the first time at LAM. After the talk, you’ll have the opportunity to tour the exhibition space, and truly step into the Multiverse.

Using wit and satire, Lowe’s paintings, sculptures, and room-sized installations reference everything from Baroque interiors as well as the French Empire style to Modern Art and consumer culture. Using strategies of big box store marketing and popular advertising, she creates works that are entertaining, seductive, and intellectually provocative.

Witty and inviting, Jean Lowe’s works are always filled with social commentary and critique as well as humor. Lowe earned her MFA from University of California San Diego and lives and works in Encinitas. Your Place in the Multiverse is organized by the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art, Utah State University.

Rochelle Steiner is one of LAM’s newest Curatorial Fellows, and this will be her first event at the museum in this new role. Steiner is a recognized curator and writer and has organized over 60 major art exhibitions and large-scale public art projects in the United States and abroad. Her work is focused on modern and contemporary art, architecture, public space, and urbanism. A Los Angeles native, she earned her PhD and MA degrees in Visual and Cultural Studies from the University of Rochester in New York.
