Artemio Sepúlveda

Artemio Sepúlveda is known for his depictions of the human figure. His compositions are expressive, gestural, loose, playful, colorful, and depict people in everyday life. Oftentimes the materials he uses are inexpensive and readily available.

Instructions

Make It Your Own

  • Be inspired by Sepúlveda to create your own portrait of a family member!
  • Use pencil, colored pencil, or oil pastel on butcher paper, packing paper, or any paper you have at home.
  • Start by having a family member pose for you.
  • Use loose, light, gestural strokes to get the basic shapes down. (Gestural drawing is a loose form of sketching that attempts to capture your subject's basic form and express movement).
  • Once you have the basic shapes sketched, add color and details.
  • If you have a pet at home, you can add him or her to the portrait too!
  • Be playful and experiment! Share with us on Instagram!
