Activity

Still Life

A Still Life is a painting or drawing of an arrangement of objects that do not move, such as flowers, fruit, bowls, etc.

Make your own drawings or paintings inspired by a work from Laguna Art Museum’s permanent collection, an untitled still life painted by Matteo Sandonà in 1900.

Inspiration

Untitled Still Life

At center is a bowl of fruit—peaches, plums, and grapes. At right, a green glass plate is empty, as if awaiting use. Behind the plate is a ceramic milk pitcher and a vase of flowers. The white tablecloth completely fills the lower half. The colors of flowers and fruit are scattered and reflected in the cloth. The edges are blurred, creating a shimmering—and seemingly out of focus—beautiful picture.
